Last week I lost one two teammates and I gained one.  As I scrolled through ESPN.com last week, I saw the breaking news that Justin Reed and Mike James were being traded to Houston for Juwan Howard.  I guess this is the really hard part of the business of NBA basketball.  When you go to battle with the same guys every day you get close to them.  I'm going to miss Mike and Justin.  Clearly, Houston loves Mike James and almost signed him last summer.  I think that Justin Reed is only really lacking the right opportunity.  It seems like he played really well here for us, especially when he got extended minutes.

Today, I was in Rochester Minnesota giving a "Life in the NBA" talk at Rochester Athletic Club.  I can't remember how many times people asked me if Kevin Garnett was going to get traded, but it was a lot.  I really think that there is not going to be any trades involving Kevin Garnett.  I sure hope not.  I know for a fact that Kevin loves Minnesota and he likes the guys in the locker room.  But I'm also aware the realities of professional sports and that from a business standpoint, anything can happen to anyone.  The thing about Kevin is that he makes everyone around him better.  Three years ago, Sam Cassell had an all-star season, Sprewell had a great year and many other guys on our roster had career years.  When you have someone like Kevin Garnett on your team, everyone is going to benefit.

Hey Mark,

Thanks for an update. I've been lookin for an update for a while. Let me know if you come out to D.C. to visit your sister, i'd love to try to connnect. Hopefully you get a strong draft pick and then hopefully Rashad comes back strong.

You think Craig will give up his number 5 so Juwan can have it? What number does Rashad want...why did Kevin Mchale say in his press conference with Juwan that several number changes were likely?

I don't really understand why Mike James is so enthusiastic about playing for Houston. I realize he lives there, but doesn't he have to share minutes with Rafer Alston now?

I'm so pissed at K.G for dissin' my C's. Personally, I understand where he's coming from, but it still would have been nice to help the winning cause out here in Boston. I hear he wants to play for the Suns, but if I'm McHale, I only make the deal if Stoudemire is included because who's to say Marion would resign with you guys when his contract is up?

I know you hate talking about teammates leaving, but from a GM perspective, the smart thing to do would be to hang onto Garnett until the trade deadline of next season where you have teams in the championship hunt more likely to rent Garnett for half a season.

Kevin may (hopefully not) be traded but he cannot be replaced. Kevin is like Magic Johnson to the Lakers, Bill Russell to the Celtics, and Michael Jordan to the Bulls. He also has a warrior heart the size of Minnesota.

When he got tossed from a game last season against Detroit for sticking up for my favorite Timberwolf, that showed me what kind of a leader he is.

Mark,

I can't wait for your inside scoop on your new draft picks.

I saw you are out touring MN with the Wolves road trip...hope you have a blast.

This really isn't on the topic of the post, but I think it's really... brave is not the right word... I guess smart of you to have a blog about what you go through. I'm curious about how you'd cover it in your blog if, say, ten years from now, you got traded (God forbid, but it happens).

Mark,

You're a very bad man (I mean that in a good way). Keep busting your butt out there for all of us Wolves fans. I hope you enjoy the Gator boys your running with now. Hopefully their winning ways will rub off to everyone and we can re-ignite the flame with Kevin and the boys.

Keep your head up and post for us soon.

Mark,

Hey you look trimmer in a picture on the T-Wolves web site. Are you workin out a bunch this summer?

Thanks for investing in the state and the youth. I know its so encouraging to the young people. I am jealous I am in VA and can't ever get in on the stuff you are doin. Last week I got to help Ben Wallace with a youth summer camp he does here in Richmond. Very Cool!!!, the kids were great and Ben was awesome as he worked with them.

John

One other thing...Derek Fisher back in LA after asking to be released by UTAH? That looks a bit wierd on the outside. What's your thought. I think if I were UTAH and we let him go for the sake of his daughters cancer attention, I'd be hot he re-signed with LA.
