Tonight we played against one of the best teams in the NBA--The Phoenix Suns.  Steve Nash finished his normal "day at the office" with 20 points and 18 assists.  Kevin Garnett was dominant on offense and defense and finished with 44 points, a load of rebounds, and a lot of defensive plays that won't show up on the stat sheet.  Every starter for Phoenix was in double figures.  It was a great game to play in and a great game to watch.

Mike D'Antoni has changed the way basketball is played in the NBA.  (On a side note: He and I jawed a little bit during the game during a stretch when I was pushing for a technical foul for the Phoenix bench when they really protested a call. He heard me calling out to the officials: "Give them a technical" and then he yelled at me to "just play basketball."  It was a little heated for a second then it just died down.  I got his point and he was probably right.)

But Phoenix's new style has impacted everyone from the refs to NBA coaches all the way to professional scouts.  The big bruising players are still effective in the NBA, but speed and shooting are at a premium now because of the success of the Suns and the way they have shown you can win with leaner, faster players with high skill levels.  I think D'Antoni's style is showing the pros and colleges a new and exciting way to play the game.  I can tell you firsthand that playing against the Suns is fun for us as NBA players, win or lose,  because you know it's going to be uptempo and there's going to be a lot of scoring.  You know you'll be playing against one of the best teams in this league.

==============================

I had a huge celebration when I watched the Stanford men's basketball team knock off the top ranked UCLA Bruins yesterday.  This year, all the national experts are saying that the Pac-10 is the top conference in college basketball.  Even though Fred Hoiberg likes to mess with me about how he doesn't like Stanford's mascot--The Tree--our mascot was out there dancing around Maples Pavilion in Palo Alto after our big win.  I think I will get some video footage of it and email it to Freddie.  The funny thing is that everywhere I go people ask me about the Tree.  "Hey is it true that the Tree got suspended for two games a few years ago for yelling at a ref."  I hear questions about that all the time.  I'm not even totally sure what the right answer is.  Well, all I can say is that the Tree is doing something right because everyone's talking about him/her and the on-court exploits of the tree are taking on an almost mythical status.

On a more serious note, I think that Stanford's Coach Trent Johnson is showing why he should be a leading candidate for coach of the year.  He has dealt with some tough injuries this season but has done a great job of developing his young players like Brook and Robin Lopez.  It was special to watch such a well coached team two nights ago.  It was nice to see Lawrence Hill take over that game in the second half along with Anthony Goods and the Lopez's controlling that paint.

Mark,

Congrats on beating the Suns and ending the fabled streak! I was watching the game (I live in Phoenix now) and routing for you and the T'Wolves, which was like being a black sheep here locally. Ironic how you went from one set of dominating Wolves (SRVHS) to another over the years. Keep up the good work and the faith.

Hope all is well with you my old friend.

God Bless,
Jeff

Hey Mark! Congratulations on beating the Suns. I was waiting for a team to stop them! Good that it was you guys and I'm sure it will be a great confidence booster for you guys and I really wish you guys the best in securing a seed in the playoffs. So what do you think of your new coach and you getting more minutes? Are you happy with how the team is and everything?

Also, do you think that the Suns have the best offence in NBA history? When compared to the likes of the Showtime Lakers? Keep it up Mark!

I had the opportunity to watch two great basketball games last night.

When I arrived at the Target Center, two basketball teams, comprised of roughly 10 year olds, were engaged in battle on the Target Center floor. As I prepared my materials for the upcoming Phoenix Suns/Minnesota Timberwolves game, I could not help but watch these kids play the game they love.

Mark,
Congrats on the win on Monday! I was there and could barely talk the next day from cheering so much. Good luck tonight! I'll bring my claw.

P.S. Ricky Davis was either wearing dark underwear on Monday or the butt of his shorts was filthy. Either way, someone should let him know...

Hey Mark,
Congrats on beating the suns. I was at the game routing for the suns, but If any team had to beat them I'm glad it was the T-Wolves. You guys played a great game and KG showed once again why he is a former MVP.

Mark- Congratulations on the win! I will be at the game on Wednesday against the Denver Nuggets. My mom, step dad, friend, and I are sitting on the floor. It would mean a lot to me if you waved or something! Thank you and good luck!

Hi Mark...

I'm perhaps the craziest french fan of you and your team of Minnesota... and it's the most intense privilege i have of my life to send you many words... and i really feel stupid because i 've never noticed before that i could send you an email!!! So, let me told you that you're like a god for me... you symbolize the kind of inside player i dream to be... you know, i play in a little team and i'm a center and i try to draw my inspiration from you. Since the beginning of the season, i've managed to dunk !! (oooh.. now i must stop talking about me... let's speak about you...) I really congratulate you to be a NBA player... you'd probably worked a lot at the university of Stanford and now you play in the best league of the world... with the best players like Da Kid, Ricky, Trenton, and Mike James (a boy i saw when he played in Nancy, a french team when i was very young). I personally remember a great game you played against Detroit in 2004 (you won 88-87 and Sam Cassel and Latrell were still T'Wolves). So... that's all i wanted to tell you... i just wanted to greet you and thank you for everything you bring around you and all around the world. All the hope you give to youngsters, playing basketball and dreaming of NBA... I wish you a play-off title with the wolves.

Bye from A French Fan...

*i hope i didn't write too bad... excuse me...

Au revoir!

*i know that you love cooking... why don't you come in France... i'll show you many good specialities !!!

Hey Mark...

Some of the girls from the "Average Joes" were at the game against Denver - woo hoo! Nice win!!

And it's good to see that you're keeping in shape in the Kickball off-season. ;)

Hey Mark, Tough loss last night but great games, fun to watch except, of course, the ending but, like you said, such is life in the NBA or better put, such is life in basketball... you can't win them all as much as you would like to unless you are Clemson I guess. Keep your held up, keep the momentum going and get the next game in the W column.

Ummm, stuff. Good show, Mark but have you had anybody comment that the sound level goes up and down randomly throughout the show? Do you see this behavior?

Great show Mark. I'm glade that they've won. They are the best.
